Opening Doors Association

Opening Doors Association is a non-governmental, not-for-profit arts organisation promoting the active involvement of adults with intellectual disabilities in the artistic and creative sector.

The Melita Foundation will be supporting training programmes coordinated by Opening Doors. The training provides learners with music and artistic sessions, performance opportunities, and a bigger platform for visibility and collaboration with other artists.

Opening Doors Association currently runs two artistic programmes in music for adults with intellectual disabilities in Malta. The programmes provide musicians with creative expression, music skills, and performance in Malta and abroad. The Level 1 programme focuses on basic music skills, rhythm and coordination, as well as exposure to performances and collaboration. The Level 2 programme is a space for developing higher artistic skills and performance, including the development of repertoire and performing in music festivals and established national events.

Working together for a better future

Since our launch in 2020, The Melita Foundation has supported dozens of projects run by many diverse organisations. Project beneficiaries range from the very young to the very young-at-heart, from the the very local – such as supporting STEM skills development for school children in the Three Cities – to projects which will have an impact beyond our borders: supporting extensive tree planting; developing skills in maritime law and conservation; preserving parts of our heritage entwined with our diaspora.
