The course expands the Institute’s mission to enhance capacity-building for sustainable use of the oceans, in line with all SDGs, particularly SDG 14. Melita Foundation will be supporting the Maritime Law Institute to sponsor local participants to participate in this course. The International Maritime Law Institute’s main purpose is to assist Governments, particularly those of developing countries, to implement treaties of the International Maritime Organisation and other international legal instruments, including those relating to the human dimension in shipping. The Institute provides suitably qualified candidates with the opportunity to undertake advanced training, learning and research in international maritime law, with particular emphasis on environmental protection and ocean governance. The achievement of the goal of sustainability of the oceans and their invaluable resources requires concerted efforts by all States at the national, regional, and global level.

Working together for a better future

Since our launch in 2020, The Melita Foundation has supported dozens of projects run by many diverse organisations. Project beneficiaries range from the very young to the very young-at-heart, from the the very local – such as supporting STEM skills development for school children in the Three Cities – to projects which will have an impact beyond our borders: supporting extensive tree planting; developing skills in maritime law and conservation; preserving parts of our heritage entwined with our diaspora.
