Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association

Bringing together travel, tourism and hospitality stakeholders who share an interest in Maltese tourism-related matters through dialogue, education, and projects. The Melita Foundation is supporting the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association in virtually recreating the Royal Opera House of Malta.

The Melita Foundation is supporting the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association in virtually recreating the Royal Opera House of Malta.

Originally designed by British architect Edward Barry in 1866 the Royal Opera House was then destroyed during WW2. Since then it has often been the subject of discussion as to whether it should be reconstructed to its original form.

This project involves the creation of a virtual 3D model representing both the internal and external spaces of the theatre, the creation of a virtual experience.

The virtual recreation will also be used as a digital site for conferences, filming real key-note speakers, VIP guests and musicians in green screen environments. This will provide the conference participants a different experience including the option to choose from which perspective to watch the forum.

Working together for a better future

Since our launch in 2020, The Melita Foundation has supported dozens of projects run by many diverse organisations. Project beneficiaries range from the very young to the very young-at-heart, from the the very local – such as supporting STEM skills development for school children in the Three Cities – to projects which will have an impact beyond our borders: supporting extensive tree planting; developing skills in maritime law and conservation; preserving parts of our heritage entwined with our diaspora.
