Bridging the gap with The Malta Trust Foundation

It was Her Excellency Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca who in 2015 founded the Malta Trust Foundation with the aim of supporting young people and communities that are facing certain life trials and who are in danger of poverty or social marginalisation.

By bringing together academics, psychosocial professionals, together with the business community and civil society, the Foundation offers tangible help to bridge the gaps in the country’s existing social services.

The Foundation also works to raise awareness on social matters and to prompt social dialogue about existing and emerging social situations.

The Melita Foundation supports The Malta Trust Foundation by backing a programme called YESP – Youth Employment Support Programme. This programme aims to integrate people with intellectual disabilities and other mental and emotional conditions such as post-traumatic-stress-disorder (PTSD) and learning difficulties, into the labour market. The Youth Employment Support Programme provides education, support, training and employment opportunities for youth and adults with various disabilities or conditions.

Local research shows that the need for this service is high, and that at least 20 people could immediately benefit from supported employment services.  This programme supports vulnerable people in finding employment, training, engagement and becoming self-reliant.

All the initiatives and programmes embarked upon by The Malta Trust Foundation are strengthened by agreements with experts in the fields and people who have proven records in best practices. All programmes and initiatives aim to create and nurture a national and international social platform, and to deliver results through social projects.
