Unfinished Art Space

An independent, artist-run, nomadic space, exhibiting experimental and contemporary art in Malta. The Melita Foundation is supporting the participation of three artists in a project called The Ordinary Lives of Women – an exhibition organised by Unfinished Art Space, taking place at Spazju Kreattiv in Valletta from January 2022.

The Ordinary Lives of Women is a recognition of the value of everyday women and women’s contribution to humanity. The rhetoric around feminism often focuses on the achievement of individual women, justifying equality with men through the accomplishments of a small number of talented women. This leaves little space in which to acknowledge the value of women going about their daily lives doing undervalued tasks such as cleaning, caring and maintenance. This exhibition aims at challenging that rhetoric by celebrating ‘ordinary’ women who have been pushed to extraordinary acts when their rights and lives, and those of their societies, come under threat.

Working together for a better future

Since our launch in 2020, The Melita Foundation has supported dozens of projects run by many diverse organisations. Project beneficiaries range from the very young to the very young-at-heart, from the the very local – such as supporting STEM skills development for school children in the Three Cities – to projects which will have an impact beyond our borders: supporting extensive tree planting; developing skills in maritime law and conservation; preserving parts of our heritage entwined with our diaspora.
