Saġġar aims to sow and plant a million trees and shrubs of the native genotype and rehabilitate ecological reserves, public land and private lands. This ambitious project aims to bring about an inclusive and proactive movement that consciously revitalises the Maltese islands. The project applies an ecological mindset, conduct research and apply conscious designs. The subproject Kattar focuses on the collection and preparation of seeds and cuttings, the germination of native flora species, the conduction of awareness and learning campaigns to increase the appreciation of our ecosystems and engagement for their rehabilitation.

Working together for a better future

Since our launch in 2020, The Melita Foundation has supported dozens of projects run by many diverse organisations. Project beneficiaries range from the very young to the very young-at-heart, from the the very local – such as supporting STEM skills development for school children in the Three Cities – to projects which will have an impact beyond our borders: supporting extensive tree planting; developing skills in maritime law and conservation; preserving parts of our heritage entwined with our diaspora.
