Helen O’Grady Academy

Providing a unique drama-based developmental programme designed to promote on-going self-confidence, encourage clear speech, and nurture creative talents. The Melita Foundation is supporting a developmental programme aimed at children in care or at risk of social exclusion. The programme is based on 21st century top life skills – communication, critical thinking, and creativity.

This programme is aimed at children who under normal circumstances would not have the opportunity to benefit from such programmes. The academy will identify a class group through the Ministry of Education, offer scholarships through homes operated by The Church, to those in care through Appogg and through other NGOs. The curriculum is designed by experts in the field and aims at providing an opportunity to children from difficult social situations to develop much needed skills such as problem solving, collaboration and improvisation.

Working together for a better future

Since our launch in 2020, The Melita Foundation has supported dozens of projects run by many diverse organisations. Project beneficiaries range from the very young to the very young-at-heart, from the the very local – such as supporting STEM skills development for school children in the Three Cities – to projects which will have an impact beyond our borders: supporting extensive tree planting; developing skills in maritime law and conservation; preserving parts of our heritage entwined with our diaspora.
