Raising interest and participation in pilgrimages, hiking, and faith travel to the ancient routes of Europe by providing practical information and guidance to individuals and groups wishing to pursue such expeditions. The Melita Foundation is supporting XirCammini to develop a series of heritage walks in Malta with the first one being a 28km walk through some of the oldest towns and hamlets of Malta.

The Universal Peace Walk 1543 is a 28km walk through Central West and Southeast Malta; from Mdina’s Co-Cathedrals to Zejtun’s Church of St. Gregory. XirCammini will provide participants with waymarks, a dedicated mobile app, collateral literature, a credential and certification process, and finally a well-researched book detailing all the aspects of the walk. The project will benefit local and foreign hikers, boost Malta’s faith tourism and increase business for the local bars, coffee shops, and eaters along the route.
